Loyola Clinical Centers to offer free tax preparation services

Loyola Clinical Centers

The Sellinger School of Business will offer free tax preparation services to qualifying families in the Baltimore community. The services will be offered at the Loyola Clinical Centers (LCC), located at 5911 York Road in Belvedere Square.

IRS-certified student volunteers engaged in service-learning at Loyola will file and prepare tax returns at the LCC facility. Frank Izzo, lecturer of accounting, will oversee the students, who are mainly accounting majors, and act as the site coordinator.

“The students will be helping families in need by participating in this program,” said Izzo. “They will gain valuable experience working with people and preparing and filing tax returns, all while performing important community service.”

Families and individuals who earned a maximum household income of less than $55,000 in 2018 are eligible to file their taxes through the program. Appointments are required and can be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. starting Tuesday, Feb. 12 through Thursday, April 4. Participating families and individuals will need to bring proper documents including social security cards on the day of service. For a full list of required documentation, visit .

As one of 16 institutions and organizations offering free tax preparation and e-filing services to the Baltimore community, Loyola participates in the program every year, but is hosting these services this year for the first time at the LCC. In years past, the University has participated with Morgan State University and other organizations to provide these services.

The program is made possible through the nonprofit, CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Campaign of Maryland).

JP Krahel, Ph.D., associate professor of accounting, said the tax preparing services at Loyola will financially support the community, as part of Loyola’s York Road Initiative.

"This program puts money back into the community at no interest, and hopefully makes the neighborhood a better place while doing so,” said Krahel.

In 2018, the CASH Campaign of Maryland and its partner organizations, including Loyola, prepared and e-filed taxes for more than 10,000 Baltimore-area households; this tax season, the CASH Campaign hopes to put at least $20 million back into the pockets of hard-working Baltimoreans and the economy.
