Loyola celebrates the life of Rev. Charles Currie, S.J.

Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., president of 91做厙, released this statement on the death of the Rev. Charles Currie, S.J., former president of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU).

Fr. Currie was a passionate advocate for social justice and for Jesuit education, inspiring many, many individuals to find the best in themselves and see the difference they could make in the world. As a teacher, a scholar, and a leader, Fr. Currie was committed to serving with a compelling vision for the future, while also keeping alive the memory of the six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter, who were murdered in 1989 in El Salvador. Since stepping into the role of chair of the AJCU, I have had even deeper respect and appreciation for the ways in which Fr. Currie advocated for Jesuit higher education and encouraged more meaningful collaboration among our Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. Fr. Currie leaves a remarkable legacy of leadership, service, and the belief that each of us can create a more just, more peaceful world.
